As I entered the room, Dwayne looked at me and said, “I am amazed. I can actually feel my feet again.”

He was shocked that after a series of treatments that the sensation was returning in his feet. I understand his surprise to a certain degree considering his doctor told him the treatments wouldn’t work. Dwayne was told there was nothing that could be done so just go home and live with it. He is not the type to just give up, and it was important to him to continue trying to find a solution.

Dwayne has Peripheral Neuropathy. Not had, has. He will always have that diagnosis; I do not know anyone who can take that away. What he doesn’t have any more is numbness, burning, pins and needles, and pain in his feet. He doesn’t lose his balance on a regular basis anymore either. Is that permanent? Probably not but it is very real. To someone who does not have pain, that might not seem like much but to someone who has Peripheral Neuropathy, living without numbness, burning, and / or pain for weeks, months, or years at a time can be a miracle.

When Dwayne began to look into alternative therapies, he was bombarded with quick fixes that were too good to be true. They were really nothing but a band-aid, one size fits all solutions that really didn’t fit anyone well. He could easily have given up there, most people would have.

He persevered and thankfully he found us. He had read in the local newspaper about how our clinic was involved with several breakthroughs concerning treatment and how we often help people with Chronic Pain, Fibromyalgia, and nerve related issues like Peripheral Neuropathy.

During the consultation, it was determined that Dwayne would likely benefit from treatment so a treatment plan was set out for him. He came in for personalized treatments tailored to what he needed and things slowly became better. It sounds simple but it was far from that. Dwayne persevered. Then, one day he was able to take all the impact of those small changes and say “I am amazed. I can actually feel my feet again.”

This story was about pursuing a treatment for a difficult disease, but it could have been a story about nearly anything requiring perseverance. When you know what you want, persevere. When it really comes down to it, most of the people around you want you to succeed. Most people want to help you but often they do not know you need help or do not know how they can help.

The future is bright. Don’t give up until you have what you need. There is greatness in you, I hope you show it to the world. And so does everyone else…
